北美土著人的信仰是一种基于大地的神学,他们对于前世、今生和来世的理解都被放置于"大地之母"的理念之中,一切的神圣性都集中体现于大地母亲这一意向。随着欧洲文化的入侵,他们认识到传统仪式、妇女角色、社会结构的改变以及政治经济的博弈都是内在相互联系的。基于性别差异、精神信仰的不同理解而最终导致的物质世界的巨变成为解读当今生态恶化的链状因果关系的视角之一。
